Angie Jerez is an Atlanta-based artist originally from Bogot, Colombia who currently works as a painter and a muralist, exploring her identity through layering stylized natural forms through graphic elements and color. Jerez earned a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogot, Colombia in 2002, and worked in digital design for several years. After making a move across the Americas, she transitioned to illustration and painting full time, explaining Im still in love with design, but I enjoy creating handmade pieces.
Known for her intricate line work and delicate textures, she creates whimsical little worlds through abstract subjects, surrounding them by organic shapes. Her murals frequently evoke the feeling of nature wanting to break the urban structure and find its new environment. In the work Protect Her - designed and executed as a Forward Warrior (a public art initiative in Atlanta that brings together muralists and street artists to create large-scale works on walls in the city) mural in 2019 - Jerez vision is shown in a bold and uncompromising way. She reveals the essence of the piece, it's her, it's the earth, it's nature, it's us. This sense of the Earth reclaiming its territory in Jerez art serves as a beautiful reminder of the impermanence that shapes both our surroundings and our lives. In a poignant irony, the original mural, once a vibrant part of the landscape, has now been covered by new artwork.
Jerez has been involved in a number of significant art projects, including Protect Her and other murals at Cabbagetowns Forward Warrior, Atlantas Outerspace Project, and Mural festivals in Oklahoma (Sunny Dayz), Bristol, UK (Upfest), as well as other mural projects in Mexico and Colombia. She has also showcased her work in various exhibitions such as Layered Thoughts at CatEye Gallery, Repuestos at Hi-Lo Press, and Dibujos Orgnicos at Creature Comforts.
