The Type 97 Carrier Attack Bomber or BN5 "Kate" (so named by the Allies), entered service in 1939, but its first combat mission was the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Primarily used as a torpedo bomber, it was involved in all major carrier actions in the Pacific theater.
